Healing Yoga

  • Pranayama (meditation)

    Pranayama is the practice of breath control. This meditation class introduces students to yogic breathing and concentration exercises that lead to a meditative state. Regular practice purifies the body and calms the mind, eventually leading to experiences of deep relaxation, peace and vitality. Some preparatory asanas may be included.

  • Restorative

    A deeply relaxing healing practice focused on stimulating the parasympathetic system with the purpose of calming the body and the mind. In this class, props such as belts, bolsters, blocks, chairs and blankets are used with the purpose of supporting the body while exerting minimal physical effort in the asanas. Some pranayama, chanting and meditation may be included.

  • Yin

    A healing practice focused on realigning and stretching the connective tissues of the body. Students will experience long held deep stretches with the purpose of connecting with the rhythm of the breath and cultivating a meditative mind. Some pranayama, chanting and meditation may be included.

  • Warm and Relaxing Stretch

    A healing practice done in a mildly heated room. This class focuses on opening the body and soothing the mind through gentle poses and the use of props. Students will experience more seated and supine postures and some longer asana holds. Some pranayama, chanting and meditation may be included.

Dynamic Yoga

  • Ashtanga 1

    This dynamic class comprises the classical form of Ashtanga Yoga as taught in its traditional sequence. It combines power and flexibility with movement, bandhas and breath to produce an energetic and detoxifying practice. During this class, the standing, seated, and finishing sequences may be shortened or modified. The Ashtanga opening chant is an intrinsic part of this Yoga tradition and may be included.

  • Dharma Yoga

    This dynamic class follows the tradition developed by Sri Dharma Mittra. It comprises of a system of classical Hatha-Raja Yoga; a devotional practice that emphasises good health, a clear mind and a kind heart. Students are encouraged to do each posture at their own level as they go through the different parts of the sequence. Asana, pranayama, chanting, deep relaxation, meditation and philosophy are included in these classes with the purpose of strengthening and purifying the entire system.

  • Beginners' Workshop: Sun Salutations

    A beginners’ practice focused on introducing the basic concepts and postures of the traditional sun salutations. Students will learn to connect the movement of their bodies along with the rhythm of their breaths. Some pranayama, chanting and meditation may be included.

  • Vinyasa Basics

    A dynamic practice focused on moving the body along with the breath. The experience in this class is one of fluidity and motion. Poses are generally held for short periods of time and emphasis on the rhythm of the breath is encouraged with the purpose of aligning and focusing the mind. Some pranayama, chanting and meditation may be included.

Specialized Yoga+

  • Kirtan

    This is a Bhakti Yoga practice of chanting Sanskrit mantras with music. Mantras are words or phrases that carry sound vibrations and can stimulate a powerful healing effect at different levels of our being. Participating in a Kirtan session cultivates an active, effortless meditation that promotes a deeper connection with the heart and awareness of the community.

  • Pre-natal

    This class is designed to meet the needs of pregnant women and allow them to connect with their babies and their bodies during this special period in their lives. Specific postures are performed with the purpose of connecting with the pelvic floor area, strengthening specific areas of the core and nourishing their bodies as a whole. A sense of community is encouraged by practising along other women and sharing the experience of pregnancy. Some pranayama, chanting and meditation may be included.

  • Strength & Intelligence (by Teacher’s approval)

    This advanced class seeks to deepen the understanding of the poses and build strength through intelligent sequencing and detailed alignment. Props are used to experience a deeper connection with the body and an expanded sense of inner balance. Some pranayama, chanting and meditation may be included. Suitable for teachers and mature students with a consistent Level 2/3 practice who have the necessary body stability and awareness to take on Level 3 asanas. This class will include longer timings for key poses. A clear understanding of the fundamental alignments and the ability to perform headstand, shoulderstand, kick to handstand at the wall, and push into Urdhva Dhanurasana with straight arms is necessary to attend this class.

  • Upside Down

    This specialised class focuses on the practice of inversions. Strengthening and stabilising postures are practised as a way to prepare the body for these poses and build its internal support. The class emphasises headstand, handstand, forearm balance and shoulderstand, as well as variations of these poses. Some pranayama, chanting and meditation may be included.

  • Wall Rope Yoga 1

    This specialised class is practiced on a Yoga Wall system that uses ropes, pelvic swings, bars and other props to help enhance traction and extension of the body in different yoga poses. The system is designed to assist the understanding of alignment as well as deepening the opening of the body during practice. Some pranayama, chanting and meditation may be included. Suitable for students with some yoga experience looking to explore the Wall Rope Yoga practice. Some supported inversions and Level 2 postures may be introduced, with options for Level 1 students to ease the transition from Level 1 to Level 2 classes. This class is not suitable for beginners.

  • Yoga Wheel 1

    This specialised class combines the use of a yoga wheel with traditional asanas. Designed to open up areas that are typically tight due to modern-day living – the yoga wheel expands the chest and shoulders, stretches the hip flexors and rejuvenates the spine. Practising with the yoga wheel creates a unique overall opening experience. Some pranayama, chanting and meditation may be included. Suitable for students with some yoga experience looking for new ways to expand their practice. No full inversions are included. Some preparations for inversions and Level 2 postures may be introduced, with options for Level 1 students. This class is not suitable for beginners or students with spine injuries.

  • Core

    This specialised class focuses on strengthening the core muscles and improving the internal support and stability of the body. Abdominal postures and breathing techniques are incorporated into the class to strengthen the connection between the upper and the lower body. Some chanting and meditation may be included. Suitable for intermediate yoga practitioners with a consistent practice. This class builds on the necessary body stability acquired in Level 1 classes to take on more challenging asanas and sequences. Classes are taught with modifications to allow an easy transition from Level 1 to Level 2. Full inversions may be included in these classes.

  • Active Recovery for Running & Hiking

    This Specialised class focuses on stretching areas that are typically tight from running & hiking such as the hamstrings, IT band and hips. The aim is stabilising key functional areas like the knees and ankles, restoring typically sore areas, and working on breath exercises to centre the mind. Specific sets of postures and sequences make for a well-balanced class, combining both strength and flexibility for more integrated body functionality. Some pranayama, chanting and meditation may be included. No yoga experience required.

Hot Yoga

  • Hot Hatha

    A non-vinyasa based asana practice in a heated room focused on connecting the body and mind. Some asanas are held for a longer period of time with the purpose of building endurance. Some pranayama, chanting and meditation may be included.

  • Hot Vinyasa

    A dynamic practice in a heated room focusing on moving the body along with the breath. The experience in this class is one of fluidity, motion and heat. Poses are generally held for short periods of time and emphasis on the rhythm of the breath is encouraged with the purpose of aligning and focusing the mind. Some pranayama, chanting and meditation may be included.

Grounding Yoga

  • Alignment 1

    An asana practice that explores the poses (asanas) through clear and intelligent alignment, building strength and ultimately creating a thorough understanding of each pose. Some pranayama, chanting and meditation may be included.

  • Beginners' Workshop: Basic Asana

    A beginners’ practice focused on introducing the basic concepts and postures in the yoga tradition. Students will learn about connecting the body and mind with the purpose of increasing awareness and stability. Some pranayama, chanting and meditation may be included.

  • Hatha Gentle

    A non-vinyasa based asana practice focused on connecting the body and mind with the purpose of increasing awareness and stability. Some pranayama, chanting and meditation may be included.

  • Sivananda Yoga

    This class follows the Sivananda Yoga tradition established by Swami Sivananda and spread by his disciple Swami Vishnudevananda. This tradition integrates the 4 paths of yoga (Karma, Bhakti, Raja and Jnana) and seeks to develop physical and mental health as well as spiritual growth. This class comprises of sun salutations, the 12 traditional Sivananda postures, and a final deep relaxation that allows the body to release unnecessary tensions and integrate the benefits of the physical practice. Some pranayama, chanting and meditation may be included.

  • Yin-Yang

    An asana practice that blends strengthening and softening elements with the purpose of balancing the body. Students will experience both, an invigorating practice combined with long held deep stretches to cultivate a focused and meditative mind. Some pranayama, chanting and meditation may be included.
